Lahnstein (IPA: [ˈlaːnʃtaɪn]) is a municipality in the Rhein-Lahn-Kreis, in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. It is situated at the confluence of the rivers Lahn and Rhine, approx. 6 km south of Koblenz. Sights in Lahnstein include the well known Lahneck castle, the Allerheiligenbergkapelle, Johanneskloster and the Rheinsteig. Colocated with the Johanneskloster is the Privates Johannesgymnasium, a state-grant funded Gymnasium.
In 1258 a vineyard called Koppelstein was owned by the Counts of Katzenelnbogen.
